Sarah Todd and Declan Cleary are one of TV’s most beloved foodie couples. Their onscreen romance unfolded in front of a national audience. Recently, they revealed a super cute detail about the moment sparks started to fly between them. It was on a date, and barra pani puri was on the menu. For Declan, it’s a fish that holds a lot of good memories.
“Barramundi is more than a fish; it’s a national icon,” he says. “I grew up fishing with my grandfather, and it’s where my love of barra began. It’s a fish that’s always been part of my life, and part of Australia too.”
Now, the couple are combining their romance with their love of Australia’s most iconic fish this National Barramundi Day on Friday 17 October, with a dreamy “Barra Love Shack” pop-up at Bondi Beach.
At the Barra Love Shack, the couple will cook barramundi dishes live for the public while sharing why this versatile, proudly Australian fish deserves a place in every household. Everyone will sample fresh Australian barramundi straight off the grill, learn exclusive recipes, and pick up Declan and Sarah’s best tips for cooking this homegrown hero.
On the menu are three of their signature barra creations. There will be zesty barra tacos, perfect for beach days and long lunches, barramundi en papillote, a romantic, delicate dish perfect for two. Lastly, barra pani puri, the memorable dish they shared at the beginning of their relationship.
Sarah Todd added: “National Barramundi Day is about celebrating food, culture and connection. Barramundi is fresh, healthy and so simple to cook, it’s the kind of ingredient every Aussie can fall in love with.”
The Bondi pop-up is part of a nationwide celebration, with more than 150 pubs, restaurants, cafés and clubs across the country serving up special barramundi dishes in honour of National Barramundi Day.
The event is proudly presented by Australian Barramundi, representing leading local producers from the Northern Territory, Queensland and Victoria, who are all helping Aussies fall in love with locally farmed barra.

On October 9, the couple took to Instagram to share the happiest of news. Their little family is growing!
“We are overjoyed to share that our little family is growing 💛 These past months have been some of the most precious of our lives,” they wrote. “A sacred time of holding this news close, letting it sink in, and soaking up all the emotions with those dearest to us. It has been such a gift to sit in the wonder of it all, imagining the beautiful new chapter that lies ahead.”
The pair went on to say how grateful they feel for the outpouring of love and excitement surrounding their announcement.
“We feel so deeply blessed knowing this little cherub will enter a world already brimming with so much love. Between us, Phoenix, and Sol, there is no shortage of cuddles, laughter, and warmth waiting to welcome the addition to our family. Our hearts are full to the brim, and we couldn’t be happier to share this joy with all of you finally. Thank you for being a part of this special moment in our lives. It means the world to us.”
