This is what the ideal Aussie home looks like

This is what the ideal Aussie home looks like

Thanks to research commissioned by Gonaturalgas.com.au, we now know what the ideal Australian home looks like. The study asked more than 1200 Australian people what features they think are essential when it comes to making a house feel like a home, and the results are interesting.

“The research suggests Aussies still have traditional views of the great Australian dream, and even in the modern age where we have smart devices and gadgets always at our fingertips, we haven’t changed our views on what makes a house a home,” says Gonaturalgas.com.au spokesperson, Danielle Beinart.

  • 89 per cent of Australians believe having a shared entertaining space makes a house a home.
  • Less than one in 10 Australians think smart technology is absolutely necessary.
  • 76 per cent of Australians said their ideal home needs a private backyard or garden.
  • Almost two-thirds (or 63 per cent) of Australians said they preferred a single-storey home to an apartment or multi-storey home.
  • More than half of respondents said that a barbecue area is one of the things that makes a house a home.
  • 65 per cent of those surveyed said that a natural gas cooktop or range cooker appliances would be essential in their ideal kitchen.
  • Instant and long-lasting hot water was also an essential for 65 per cent of people surveyed.

Overwhelmingly, the ideal home for most Australians is a single-storey residence with a backyard, outdoor entertaining area and a barbecue. The report also suggests that taking a long, hot shower without having to wait for the water to heat up is among the top requested luxuries of Australians today, painting a picture of the ideal Aussie home as a somewhat humble abode perfect for families.

On the flip side, this research also gives homeowners who are considering selling their property some ideas of what people consider essential when it comes to buying a home.
