In our cities, living space is at a premium. The best compromise is often to build a granny flat. But what if you want something more than a metal box in the backyard? Joh meets architect Adriano Pupilli to chat about his innovative backyard cabins. Drawing on his architectural knowledge, Adriano has made these funky little outdoor rooms modular, affordable and sustainable. Not only do they look great but if you look closer, there’s no glue or screws – it uses an ancient Japanese woodworking technique of interlocking mortice and tenon joins. The best part is this means you don’t need to be a carpenter to build them yourself!
