If you’ve got a mum who loves to DIY, a power tool is the perfect gift for her this Mother’s day. Here are five great tools that’ll put a smile on her face.

Whether it’s putting together flat pack furniture, hanging a picture or making a creation all of her own, a cordless screwdriver is sure to be top of her list. They’re compact so can easily be used with one hand – great for when the job requires a hand to hold something. They’re also lightweight so can be used for hours on end with ease. Don’t forget to include a set of driver bits!

A cordless drill is a close second behind the screwdriver. A 12 volt drill is probably your best buy, while it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that larger drills do, it is still easy enough to handle so she can tackle most jobs around the home. If you know she’ll be drilling into bricks and concrete, get one with a hammer action setting.

Sander

For refinishing old furniture or sanding back timber before a coat of paint, a power sander is the tool. The best type to go for is a detail sander. It’s light enough to handle easily and the pointed tip gets into all those tight nooks and crannies. For larger areas, lay it flat and let the wide base do the work.

Clean up in no time! Dirty cars, bikes, paths and driveways are no match for a pressure washer! Some models come with patio cleaners for large areas of concrete and pavers and also a variety of nozzles.

Jigsaw

A jigsaw is a great cutting tool for the first-timer. As well as straight and curved cuts in timber, with a change of blade it’s also good for thin metals, plastic and Perspex. If she’s already got some battery tools, check if there’s a cordless jigsaw that suit those batteries. That’ll make using it even more convenient.
