How to make a drying rack for plants
Harvest your herbs during the long winter months, or cut the last of your flowers and keep them as a reminder of the warmer days that are now fading fast. Then lay them out on a three-tier drying rack that serves as an interesting hanging garden. Pick from it as needed to season your dinners and brighten up your indoor decorations.
Materials:
- Old timber picture frames (from around the home or a second-hand shop)
- Flyscreen mesh
- Eyelet screws
- Chain
- Hook
- Sandpaper
- Utility knife
- Tacks
- Hammer
- Staple gun
- Drill
- Pliers
Step 1
Remove glass and backing from frames, then sand the timber.
Step 2
Cut flyscreen mesh with utility knife to fit the size of the frames. Tack to the back of the frames, then staple to secure. Trim off excess.
Step 3
Drill pilot holes for eyelet screws in the corners of each frame. Make holes in the front and back of top 2 frames, and the front only of bottom frame. Screw in eyelets by hand or use pliers.
Step 4
Starting from the bottom frame, connect a short chain (about 10-15cm) to each eyelet so you connect the three tiers. Close eyelets with pliers.
Step 5
Connect chains from top of top frame to a hook for hanging.
Paint your old frames to make them look as fresh as the flowers you pick. As the flowers dry, the frames make a great contrast!
