Give your place street appeal!
Chris Jones

The humble garage is a multi-purpose and useful space in your home. I mean, where else is the family going to store their unwanted bits and bobs? It also takes up a significant proportion of street frontage in many homes. By giving your garage a stylish and functional makeover, you can boost your home’s street appeal without forking out huge sums of cash.

Follow our simple ideas and your garage will be the envy of the entire neighbourhood.

Replace Garage Door

Replacing your garage door is an immediate facelift that can increase the value of your home! The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to give your home a fresh, modern update. For under $5000, you can say goodbye to that old, rusted roller door and hello to a brand new B&D Garage Door. If your garage takes up a large chunk of your home’s street frontage then investing in a new door can be a cost-effective way to start a complete exterior overhaul – more bang for your buck! If considering a new garage door, you will need to engage the experts. Unfortunately, this is one job that cannot be DIY. B&D offer a free consultation and quote and can come to you!

Declutter

First things first, it’s time to conquer the clutter. The garage can quickly become a dumping ground for your families’ forgotten things and unfinished projects. Decluttering will not only feel good, but it is also the most logical place to begin a garage makeover. First, pull everything out and organise into categories. If you haven’t used something in six months, it is time for it to go! Once you’ve culled and sorted, find appropriately sized (and stackable) plastic tubs. To save future confusion, make sure everything is labelled clearly.

Clean & Paint Floor

Once your garage has been emptied, it is time to roll up your sleeves and start cleaning. Before painting the floor, it will need to be degreased and washed.

Here’s How

STEP 1 Start by wetting down the floor

STEP 2 Apply Berger Jet Dry Active Clean undiluted with the scrubbing broom

STEP 3 Allow 10 minutes to do its thing

STEP 4 Using a high-pressure cleaner, clean the floor removing any cleaning agent and dirt

STEP 5 Allow the floor to dry

Finish off with by painting the floor with heavy duty paint like Berger Jet Dry Heavy Duty Gloss. Voila!

Clean & Paint Walls

Garages are no longer just for cars. Whether it’s a makeshift workshop, home gym or even laundry, avoid any embarrassment of leaving the garage door up by giving your space a fresh lick of paint.

Here’s How

STEP 1 Remove any dirt or cobwebs off exposed brick with a broom and clean plaster walls.

STEP 2 Undercoat the raw brick and allow to dry

STEP 3 Paint walls and ceiling with Dulux Wash&Wear Matt in ‘Natural White’ and allow to dry.

Storage

The final step to completing your new garage is to invest in stylish and practical storage solutions that make the most of your space. Pegboards, rail storage and jumbo hooks will save you precious floor space, while metal shelving options are easy to install and customisable depending on what you require.
