When Castle Hill mother Sonya Meares opened her linen press and saw a “boring space” she decided to give it a makeover that was not only functional and organised, but “looked beautiful at the same time”.
The first thing the mother of two did was pull everything off her shelves and sorted through things she no longer used or needed.
"Items that were still of good quality I gave away to charity and all the other items went in the bin,” she exclusively tells Better Homes and Gardens.
“I then worked out what I had left and put the remaining items into categories like towels, bedding, linen etc. and worked out roughly how many containers I would need.
She took down the measurements of her shelves and headed to the shops to look for baskets and containers.
“When searching for the containers I looked for something that suited the style I wanted but was also functional in terms of size,” says Sonya.
She organised everything into the containers and ordered my custom labels from Pretty Little Designs.
“The white fabric box didn't have a handle for me to hang a label off so I came up with the idea of sticking the label on a photo frame and then using a hot glue gun to stick the photo frame to the box,” she explains.
Sonya styled the space to add warmth and character.
“In my opinion, anything pretty and pink makes a space automatically that much better,” she says.
Sonya’s linen closet caused a stir on the Kmart & Beyond Ideas – Australia Facebook page, gaining 3.1k ‘likes’ and over 700 overwhelmingly positive comments.
"This actually makes me so many levels of happy!!!” one mum posted.
"You are the Khaleesi of Linen!" another on declared.
As for Sonya, she’s delighted with her new-look linen press.
“I feel great about the makeover, it puts a smile on my face.
“A linen press is a perfect space for people to start hoarding stuff and now that everything has a home and is organised it’s neat and tidy and makes me feel at ease,” she says.
