Alex Roslaniec, a co-founder of Hey Bud Skincare, says, “When developing Gentle Jane, we took time to look at the options other exfoliation products use in the market, and it was sad to see there is still a presence of microplastics in some other brands products in the beauty industry.
“Creating this product with biodegradable cellulose beads, found naturally in plant fibres like wood pulp, was an easy decision for Hey Bud as we continue to put sustainability at the core of everything we do.”
What is it?
The Melbourne-based business thoughtfully designed Gentle Jane Hemp Exfoliator using a unique physical and chemical exfoliation blend. The product includes natural Fruit AHAs (sweet orange and blueberry) for chemical exfoliation, alongside biodegradable Cellulose Beads to provide the gentle polish of the physical exfoliation.
While exfoliating is key to removing a build of dead skin cells, it’s important not to overdo it.
The Hey Bud website recommends weekly use: “Use caution not to over-exfoliate skin by using once a week and gradually increasing frequency as the skin needs it.
“After cleansing, apply directly to the face and gently massage, especially around the nose, chin and forehead or where pores appear deeper or congested. A small amount of water can be added to aid massage action.”
What’s the difference between a chemical and a physical exfoliator?
A chemical exfoliator dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, so they are ready to be removed. A physical exfoliator uses small grains or particles to scrub the skin and physically remove these dead skin cells.
This is why a combination of the two is best.
The Gentle Jane exfoliant breaks those old bonds, allowing the dead skin to be gently polished away by the physical exfoliant. This way, your skin will be refreshed, dead skin cells will be gently removed, and all without worrying about the possibility of damage to the skin from excessive ‘scrubbing’.
