Meet George and Raphael
In a recent Instagram post, the Wildlife Sanctuary introduced the pair (pictured below) to its followers.
“This is George, the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo and his best mate, Raphael the Musk Lorikeet. ❤💚”
“Both of these handsome fellows reside with several other resident birds in the Arc, our mixed-species flight aviary and nobody at Bonorong expected them to form such a tight bond when they first moved in together, but they have surprised us! 😍”
While no one knows what the pair have bonded over, they are never without each other.
“Wherever George goes, Raphael is not far behind him. You’ll often see them sleeping all snuggled up together or loudly chatting with passing guests 😆” the post adds.
Love is love
Sanctuary director Greg Irons said he was very surprised to see the birds hit it off.
“I can’t say I’ve ever seen a relationship like that between species,” he told the ABC.
He added they initially had concerns about the friendship due to the size difference between the two birds.
Keeping an eye out for signs of aggression, Greg said the birds only have “affection” for each other.
Commenters on the Instagram post couldn’t love this story more.
“Ohh, stop it!!” wrote one person.
Another added: “This is how humans should be. 👏👏👏 Beautiful.”
“They’re both sassy kind of birds, so a good team,” another commenter added.
