The hidden health benefits of drinking coffee

Australians love coffee. Research by McCrindle discovered that 27 per cent of Australians don’t think they can survive a day without coffee, and 75 per cent of Australians enjoy at least one cup of coffee per day. Coffee has become ingrained into Australian café culture, particularly among the younger generations. But did you know that there are actually some health benefits to drinking coffee?

Coffee can assist weight loss

According to a study done by the Department of Human Nutrition in the Netherlands, caffeine has been found to increase the metabolic rate by three to 11 per cent for up to three hours after consumption.

Coffee is good for your memory

A French study found that drinking coffee can stimulate your memory, make your more alert and improve attentiveness.

Coffee is a source of antioxidants

A study on the typical Spanish diet discovered that coffee is high in antoxidants and provides up to 66 per cent of a coffee drinkers antioxidant intake.

 

Coffee can extend your life

The Harvard School of Public Health discovered that coffee drinkers could lower their mortality risk by six per cent simply by drinking a cup of coffee per day. The study also found that the more you drink the longer you could live, with those who drank up to five cups per day reducing their mortality risk by 15 per cent.
