Sharing the hack in a Facebook group, Lainee Hermsen revealed that she came up with the nifty idea after struggling to find any appropriate stand-alone shelving units that would work for her home.
The resourceful shopper did consider floating shelves, but ended up taking matters into her own hands with a DIY project.
To recreate this hack at home, you will need two Kmart caddies, and a 1.2m plank of timber.
Method
- Place the two caddies on your kitchen bench about a metre apart.
- Slide the plank of timber across the top tier of the caddy to create a shelf.
3 Tier Floor Caddy, $15, Kmart
The hack has since gone viral online, inspiring other Kmart fans to have a go at recreating their own variation.
Based in Plainland, Queensland, another Kmart enthusiast, Jackie Smart, used the same caddies to create a sensational coffee and tea station.
Jackie exclusively told Better Homes and Gardens that she bought the caddies from Kmart and had her partner cut the top handle and top tier to fit perfectly in her butler's pantry.
"I then used the cut-off top tier as an egg basket."
It comes as no surprise that this hack has gone viral. Best of all, it's perfect for renters as you don't need to erect any permanent fixtures.
