There’s nothing wishy-washy about darker blues, such as midnight, royal and navy. They have a presence that demands to be noticed. Thankfully, these shades can be used effectively to underpin a wide range of schemes, from classic to maritime, sophisticated and country – even mid-century modern. And while we may refer to them as moody, the only mood they evoke is one of calm.
Pair rich midnight blues with natural timbers, woven materials and warm metals (try copper and brass) for understated glam.
Here are three easy wasy to make a case for the bold and the beautiful in your home – deepest blue!
Go mono
Navy and white are a classic combination that will never date. Go for pared-down simplicity and you’ll be on a winner.
Opt for refined elegance
Couple darkest blue with timber, then for a look of time-honoured craftsmanship and character, introduce hand-tooled leather trunks or boxes.
Rock a contrast
Complement handsome moody blues with pinks, reds, corals, greens and yellows. But it’s a good idea to avoid primary colours so the outcome isn’t too kiddie.
