Bank with Commonwealth? You could be $50 richer today

Were you affected by the Commonwealth Bank outage? - by Laura Barry

Bank with Commonwealth? You could be $50 richer today

Last week Commonwealth Bank suffered a major outage that stopped all money transfers and online services on Thursday evening for 12 hours,  affecting at least 100,000 individual customers and small businesses. Some customers even reported issues throughout the weekend.

This week, Commonwealth Bank has made the unusual move of gifting those affected by the outage $50 with a simple message of ‘Sorry from CBA’ in the transaction details section.

The $50 gift is being given to customers who missed payments over the weekend due to the technical outage, and will be paid in addition to refunds of late fees and other charges incurred by customers as a result of the issue.

How to get your $50

Commonwealth bank says all customers who were affected by the outage will have $50 deposited into their account

You will not have to get in touch with the bank to supply additional evidence or personal details

Be Careful

Commonwealth Bank has warned customers that scammers may try to use this opportunity to request private information from you.  However, Commonwealth has said that it will not be contacting people to ask for private information or bank details.

“If a customer is approached for their account details they should not provide this and the customer should let us know by phoning our call centre or visiting us in branch,” the spokesperson said.
