Josh and Jenna reveal how to update your home for summer

Summer is a wonderful time of the year. The weather is warmer, the sun is brighter and you can spend more time reconnecting your home to the great outdoors. However, summer is also Christmas time here in Australia, a time for family gatherings and entertaining guests. So, it’s important that your home has the ability to work hard and look great without too much effort from you.

With that in mind, we asked two-time Block contestants and HPM Ambassadors Josh and Jenna Densten what their five favourite trends of the season are, and – if they could only buy one item to update each room – what would it be?

Read their advice for summer 2020 below!

The living room

“Every living room needs to look and be smart this summer, and if you can only afford one purchase buy a smart home product such as the Arteor with Netatmo that will save you money,” explain Josh and Jenna.

“For us, the living room is the heart of our home, but it’s also the one with the highest energy consumption. We are always mindful about reducing our carbon footprint (and electricity bill!) which is why Arteor with Netatmo is perfect as it has an energy use tracker and can send us alerts when appliances are left on for extensive periods of time. Using the phone app, you can also turn off appliances remotely – which is a feature I need daily as I feel like I’m always rushing out the door with my toddler and leaving appliances on like the TV and aircon!”

Buy this:

The Arteor with Netatmo Starter Kit is now available exclusively from HPM in Mitre 10 stores nationally.

The bedroom

“Every bedroom needs to be a sanctuary, a place to relax and unwind. Soft neutral tones will provide a calming colour palette and mix up textures with travertine, timber and linen to give an earthy vibe.”

Buy this:

“We recommend 100% French Flax linen from Bed Threads to keep you cool on those summer nights, but give your bedroom an instant update with some gorgeous terracotta and rust tones. It's also an inexpensive way to update your bedroom!”

The bathroom

“Every bathroom needs a great quality set of towels! In a room full of hard surfaces, towels are a great way to soften the space.”

Buy this:

“I absolutely adore Loom Towels because they not only look stunning, but they’re organic and sustainable.”

The kitchen

“Having a place to style books and accessories in your kitchen will soften the space and add contrasting texture to your hard surfaces. We are all about personalising your space and kitchens should not get forgotten about. I love to style with pieces that will not only look great but are practical too.”

Buy this:

“A timber platter stand will add warmth to the space but will also be perfect for entertaining!”

The outdoor area

“In Australia we’re all about the indoor/outdoor connection and every alfresco area needs a great outdoor setting this summer. Your alfresco area can act as an additional living room during the warm summer nights and potentially seat more people than you can inside.

Buy this:

“The Amart Elwood 3-piece setting can seat 8 people and is durable enough to withstand the harsh Australian elements.”
