Expert tips to keep your home warm
- In winter, help retain heat by switching your light summer drapes to a heavier fabric.
- A draught stopper – or door snake as they are called – can stop cold air sneaking in under the door or hot air escaping.
- Seal exterior doors and windows with self-adhesive weather stripping to reduce draughts, dust and insects.
- Your ceiling fan direction in summer should be anticlockwise for a downdraft, which creates that direct, cooling breeze. Your fan direction in winter needs to be clockwise to create an updraft and circulate warm air around the room.
- Winter means heaters, so be fire safe. Get an extinguisher and fire blanket, and make sure smoke detectors are working properly.
