i've been really naughty (aka lazy) because i haven't put up a single christmas decoration. it's not that i'm not feeling festive, i just can't quite swing it this year for various reasons and i just feel like keeping it simple. candlelight will have to suffice.

1. Shop around

"I never judge a store by its logo or storefront. You have no idea what treasures it will hold. I'm constantly finding gems at thrift stores."

Camila Pavone, interior decorator and blogger

Even though this Montreal apartment is giving us dreamy Parisian vibes, renter Lauren gets her inspiration from all the design coming out of Sweden and Denmark today, "where furniture is treated as art and a great sense of peace is shown through subtle colors, shapes, and textures." See the rest of her place via the link in our bio! (Image: @sylvieli | Home: @livingbylo)

2. Master the high-low mix

"It's all about the high/low mix. Spending money on long-haul items, like a great quality couch, allows you to mix in refurbished thrift items or DIY projects while keeping the whole look entirely upscale."

Erin Souder, founder of Grandiflora and blogger

3. Time-tested trick

4. Quality counts

"Quality is the hallmark of a high-end interior. Furniture and accessories that are made well, and with attention to detail, are what give a space the feeling of grandeur."

I set up a home work space and we're already all fighting over it. This was one of those spaces that didn't have much of a purpose. I had a small dining table there for a bit, but it was never used. It's a real thing when they say you have to live in a space for awhile to really understand how you'll use it. We've been here almost 3 years and I'm just now understanding each space. Do you find this to be true?? * * * * * * * * #interior2you #simplystyleyourspace #plantsofinstagram #housetour #finditstyleit #homerenovation #interior123 #smallspacesquad #interiorlovers #houseenvy #myhomevibe #sodomino #midcenturymodern #pocketofmyhome #ekkbhome #mydomaine #scandinaviandesign

5. Get thrifty

"Shop thrift and flea market. Check out places like eBay and Etsy and Chairish for cool, high-quality vintage pieces that don't break the bank."

Lauren Liess, decorator, textile designer, and blogger

Good luck 💟

6. Be open to change

"Don't be afraid of a little hard work. If your initial purchase isn't exactly what you wanted, be open to repainting, switching out hardware, or changing fabric."

Camila Pavone, interior decorator and blogger

We had a recent tragedy happen in our neighborhood. The Lowe's by us closed. I know, I appreciate any support at this time. I had to walk 30 min to homedepot. Although I must say it all ended up working out. I got this beauty in the corner. It doesn't require a lot of sunlight and water.. my kind of plant! 😏 (plant is called, white bird of paradise👌🏻). Are you a planter owner?? Or more importantly are you a green 👍🏻 or black thumb👎🏼..

7. Use a scene-stealer

"Pick one piece to be the 'show stealer' and work your room around that piece. This allows your less expensive neutrals to take a supporting role."

Darlene Weir, owner and principal interior designer of Fieldstone Hill Design

😍 I cannot wait to see how handsomely this beautiful sofa will sit in my client's newly designed Living Room. For her custom #interiordesign we've upholstered her sofa in a grey blue linen with antique #gold nailhead trim. Shoot me an email: I would love to be your #interiordesigner! 🏡 ✨💖

8. Midas touch

"Gold spray paint has become my best friend! I just recently spray-painted a black desk lamp gold and now it looks expensive. It can make the dullest item look like a million dollars."

Kirsten Grove, interior stylist and blogger

I found the perfect sectional for our family room, and of course it's in a light grey upholstery, because that's all I do for sofas in my home! @article came through for me, and I blogged all about it. {link in profile} Do you prefer leather or fabric upholstery for your sofas/sectionals? * * * * * * * * * * * * #midcenturystyle #sodomino #interiorstyling #simplystyleyourspace #homewithrue #jungalowstyle #housetour #currentdesignsituation #finditstyleit #smallspacesquad #homerenovation #interiordesign #oldhouselove #interior123 #scandistyle #houseenvy #apartmenttherapy #mysmphone #interiorsforyou #boise #boiseidaho #midcenturyfurniture

9. Balance good bones with budget pieces

"The key is to make sure the 'bones' and main focal points and items that will be used the most are functionally and aesthetically the best choices for that space. Then fill in with great cost-friendly accessories and pillows!"

10. Less is more

"Opt for fewer, more expensive items in lieu of their less-expensive look-alikes."
