How to create clipboard art

Without breaking the bank. - by Better Homes and Gardens
  • 23 Oct 2019

If your art collection needs a refresh but there’s no budget for expensive pieces, don’t despair.

In this week’s Better Home Hacks, Better Homes and Gardens’ Dora Papas shares her tips for creating some fun artwork quickly and on a budget to fill those blank walls in the home.

To start, you will need a few inexpensive Masonite clipboards – you can purchase six A5-sized clipboards for around $15 – and some paint or spray paint.

“As for the art, there are free printables you can download to your computer and print,” she says.

Step 1

Select your theme.

“I’ve gone for a leafy botanical theme but there’s a wealth of imagery you can access,” she says.

Step 2

Tape the back edges of the board so you don’t smear paint all over the back. Protect the clip with more tape.

Step 3

"I’m painting the Masonite green to emulate the look of a picture frame mat board, and two coats is ideal,” she advises.

Step 4

When the board is dry, just clip the art in place and attach picture hanger strips to the back.

“Now you’re ready to stick your arrangement in place, otherwise just lean them casually up against the wall as part of a still life,” says Papas. “Too easy!”
