“Determining the ideal layout for a small living room can be difficult,” says Lisa.
“Placing a sofa and other furniture back against the walls in a small living room draws your attention to the small size of the room. The opposite is true if you bring furniture inwards to create a conversation pit.”
What type of sofa makes your room feel larger?
Additionally, Lisa says the type of sofa you have will make a difference to the look and feel of your room.
“To instantly make your room look larger, opt for a floating-style sofa so you can see the floor underneath. Or a slimline, less bulky style to allow more movement within the room,” says Lisa.
“Consider the curvier, softer lines of current sofas to maximise flow around the room.”
If you have an open-plan living area, Lisa says, "consider positioning the sofa either against a window or with the back facing outwards towards the kitchen/dining area.”
How to make your room feel bigger with a rug
Lastly, if you don’t have a rug - you need one.
Lisa says, “Always place your sofa and other living room furniture on a floor rug to enhance the feeling of a cosy space.”
