Unfortunately, that's exactly the kind of environment your refrigerator fosters unless you take necessary action. Lisa Yakas, a food safety expert, is featured in a tutorial video on the eHow At Home YouTube channel demonstrating how to tackle those pesky smells. We love how easy her helpful tips are, and they really do work! The best part: we didn't have to buy any harsh chemical cleaners for this. We already had all that we needed right in our pantry. Here's how she does it:
First, move all contents of your refrigerator to a cooler. This is a great time to double check food that is past the expiration date!
Next, wipe down all shelves and walls with a mild detergent and water. Don't forget to dry the surfaces after as well.
Fill an open container with dry baking soda and place it on the bottom shelf. This will absorb any future odors from lingering near your food, so do not remove it when you refill your fridge.
Now you are ready to tackle even the smelliest of foods! Once your fridge has been properly cleaned and the baking soda is in place, feel free to restock the shelves.
