Coal loader

What an amazing transformation. - by Jason Hodges
  • 22 Mar 2019

From the 1920s right through to the 1990s, this site functioned as a coal transfer depot, providing coal to power stations around Sydney. When the site shut down in 1992 it was handed back to North Sydney council to reclaim the space as public land. The Coal Loader project took 20 years in the planning, two years in construction and remains an incredible undertaking involving history, sustainability, urban harvest plots, community garden groups, green walls and Sydney’s largest accessible Green Roof. The transformation of this site is truly remarkable, showcasing what it possible to achieve on a green roof and more!
