5 clever kitchen sink storage hacks

Get on top of the mess! - by Rebecca Lowrey Boyd
  • 24 Jan 2018

Most of us do our best at keeping our home organised.

We attempt to put everything away and keep on top of clutter. But some areas of the home are easy to forget, until they become unmanageable.

The space under the kitchen sink is one of those spots. We generally don’t worry about it until the cupboard door jams from the bunch of bottles and cleaners spilling out.

Here, we’ve rounded up five genius hacks to sort your kitchen sink storage.

1. Peg it

I couldn't help adding a little humor to my under sink organizing post today. The full post is live on the blog! #organization

Melissa from Polished Habitat thinks she’s found the “cheapest storage solution ever” with the humble clothes peg.

“I painted a couple of clothes pins silver with craft paint, then attached them to the cabinet with super glue gel. I use them to hold dish washing gloves and a flyswatter,” she said.

2. Stack it

Made some home made cleaning products, poured them into some cute bottles and it #inspired me #organise my #kitchen sink which is now sparkly 😂😍 check out my home made recipes and my #nobuild #kmarthack for under the sink storage 😗 👉 @fromgreatbeginnings #homeorganisation #homestyling #kmarthacks #sparkly #glitter #storagesolutions #homemadecleaning #cleaningrecipes #underthesinkorganisation #organization #homestyling #prettystorage #missinglabels #missingtriggers #cavalier #cavalierking #puppiesofinsta #dogsofinsta

DIY blogger Iryna Federico recommends using the sink’s vertical space for storage with simple customized shelving.

“I used two K-Mart ‘bits and bobs’ shelves and had a piece of timber cut to size from Bunnings, which I covered in vinyl, so I could run it across and double my storage. I then used acrylic bins which used to be in my fridge; to store my dishcloths, dish sponges, beeswax wraps, bin bags, and paper towels.”

3. Make it earn it

Today's #decluttering mission, for January 13th, is to #declutter under your #kitchen #sink #cabinet. I've written this article with simple instructions for how to do this task, plus it includes lots of before and after transformations from readers who've already done this mission to get you inspired to tackle this task in your own home today!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ You can read the article and see what others have already accomplished here: https://www.home-storage-solutions-101.com/declutter-under-kitchen-sink.html (there's a clickable link in my profile)⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I'd love to see your results with this mission so be sure to use the #Declutter365 hashtag so I can find what you've done. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #52WeekOrganizedHomeChallenge #HomeStorageSolutions101 #Decluttered #Clutter #ClutterFree #DeclutterYourLife #DeclutterMyLife #DeclutteringMyLife #ProjectDeclutter #365Project #Tidy #TidyUp #Tidying #TidyingUp #KitchenOrganization #KitchenClutter #KitchenSink #SinkCabinet #SinkOrganization #SinkOrganizer #SinkStorage #UnderKitchenSink #UnderSink

Taylor Flanery from Household Management 101 suggests taking everything out of the cupboard first, before considering every item.

“Since the space under your kitchen sink is small and contained the best way to approach this mission is to empty everything out of there, and then make each item ‘earn’ its spot back under the sink," she explained.

"That means getting rid of trash and items you never use, putting items away that do not belong there, and then finally, removing excess and duplicates until what you've got in the space can easily fit.”

4. Spin it

Carmel from Our Fifth House recommends using a Lazy Susan to easily access everything under the sink.

“The lazy Susan [is] being put to work keeping all of my cleaning sprays within reach,” she said.

5. Hang it

HOW TO ORGANISE UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK CUPBOARD 📎 #newontheblogtoday link in profile | I recently learned that the kitchen, and in particular under the kitchen sink, is one of the cupboards that many of my readers have trouble keeping tidy. See how I organise mine!

Katrina Springer from The Organised Housewife uses drawers and a tension rod to organize her stuff under the kitchen sink.

“These drawers are from Bunnings. In the top drawer I keep my tea towels. Previously, I stored them on the other side of the kitchen. I’ve moved my stash to directly under the sink so we don’t drip water onto the floor. In the lower drawers I have dishwasher tablets and spare sponges,” she explained.

"This aqua tension rod holds my homemade cleaning bottles, it helps to keep the cupboard clutter free. I got this rod a few years ago from Daiso. Tension rods are extremely hard to find, if you find one please let me know!  Bunnings don’t sell them. Spotlight have some great quality ones, however, their smallest is 80cm."
