If you’re a cat lover, you will be all too familiar with the feline habit of kneading away at clothes and furniture.
But have you ever wondered why cats like to scratch away?
SciShow’s Hank Green has come up with a theory that has something to do with cat scent glands being within their paws.
Similarly to dogs marking their territories, cats scratching at items can be interpreted as the cat version of doing exactly the same.
But that’s just one theory as another traces back the common behaviour to kitten hood. Kittens carry out the same behaviour on mother’s bellies to help stimulate milk production.
Generally, if your cat loves kneading away at your clothing it’s a loving act that he or she feels right at home with you.
It’s a natural behaviour amongst the domestic cat world which is not a cause for concern. If the scratching is causing you grief and ruining some of your favourite items opt to get their nails clipped or simply move them away.
