The recall includes models such as the Avensis, Corolla and Yaris, which apparently have faulty airbags that can cause injury or serious death in the case of an accident.
It’s been reported that the metal inflator propellant in the airbags may degrade over time due to high temperatures and humidity, which means if a car with an affected inflator is in an accident and triggers the airbag, the inflator could explode or rupture due to the pressure.
Anyone with a faulty vehicle should contact their local Toyota dealership on the manufacturers head office as soon as possible.
The Toyota cars that are being recalled are:
- Toyota Avensis ACM20 model years 2001-2003
- Toyota Corolla ZZE122 model years 2001-2007
- Toyota Corolla ZZE123 model years 2003-2005
- Toyota Yaris Sedan NCP93 model years 2006-2011
