Gather your supplies
• 1 large terracotta pot
• 4 small terracotta pots
• Reinforing bar, to suit (see Note)
• Quality potting mix
You’ll also need
Paint in assorted colours (optional);
paintbrush (optional); terracotta pot
sealant; stake driver; mallet
Choose a reinforcing bar (reo bar) that is smaller in diameter than the drainage holes of your pots.
STEP 1 Paint outside rims of small terracotta pots, if desired, and let dry. Seal insides of terracotta pots with pot sealant. Let dry.
STEP 2 In desired location, position reo bar on soil, place stake driver on top and use mallet to hammer reo bar into soil until secure, taking into account final height of your tower
STEP 3 Slide large terracotta pot over reo bar through drainage hole and sitit flat on ground. Fill with potting mix, allowing 5cm space at top for planting. Firm down, water and top up with extra mix if necessary. This sets the level for the rest of the tower.
STEP 4 Slide small pots onto reo bar, letting each tilt in a different direction. The lip of pot below will determine the ideal quirky angle for your pot tower. Fill each pot with potting mix.
STEP 5 Plant tower from top pot down to create a cascade of plants.
