The world’s cheapest Michelin meal revealed

... and it's only $2 - by Well Travelled

The world’s cheapest Michelin meal revealed

It is the holy grail of the food world, a Michelin star is global recognition of culinary excellence.

But it’s not only the ‘book six-months-in-advance’ uber expensive restaurants of the world that are bestowed the honour and thrust in to foodie superstardom.

Did you know you can eat a Michelin starred meal for $2?

In the unlikely setting of a food court in Singapore’s Chinatown, you’ll find Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle.

You might have to queue for around one hour to treat yourself to the now famous ‘Soya Sauce Chicken Rice’ but it will be well worth the wait.

Glad that you enjoyed it and featuring us! @snapandeatsg

Owner/chef Chan Hon Meng is the first ‘street food’ vendor in the world to be awarded the coveted epicurean crown.

Mr Chan now sells around 180 chickens every day and he does it with just two assistants.

However, this rising Michelin star has put his new found fame to work and opened a second establishment nearby offering that much-needed accessory in Singapore, air-conditioned comfort.

Wishing everyone good health and success this Chinese New Year! 🍊

The restaurant he calls Hawker Chan, named after himself, is located at 78 Smith St and sells the same magical dish that won him international acclaim last year.

This delightful video tracks the humble Malaysian-born chef as he prepares to receive his award without any idea about what is coming.

The MICHELIN guide Insider Series: The Story of Chan Hon Meng | 米其林指南飲食故事系列: 陈康健的故事

If you’re heading to Singapore, you’lll find Mr Chan’s original hawker stall on Level 2 of the Chinatown Food Complex, 335 Smith Street.

Open 10:30am to 7pm weekdays except Wednesday and 8:30am to 7pm weekends.
