According to dentist, Jessica Hilburg we have been brushing them wrong the entire time.
"Sometimes people forget to brush the insides of their teeth, the surfaces that face the tongue and the palate,” she told the HuffPost.
“Food and plaque can build up in these areas so it's just as important to brush there as it is on the front of our teeth where we can easily see."
It’s also important to use a softer toothbrush. “Using a soft toothbrush is recommended, as bristles that are too hard can damage gums and may not be flexible enough to remove the plaque," said Hillburg.
This also plays into the amount of pressure applied to your teeth. It's best to apply the amount of pressure that feels comfortable on your teeth and gums.
Another common error is the duration of brushing them. Two minutes is the ideal amount of time and should be done twice a day.
