Opening on the 11th of June at the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney, is The Calyx, a world-class horticultural exhibition. Pronounced kal-iks (which refers to the sepals of a flower that forms a protective layer around a flower in bud), this living art gallery will house ever-changing living botanic exhibitions. It is a mix of outdoor and indoor areas and will reinvent itself through emotively themed exhibitions changing every nine months.
The first exhibition to feature in The Calyx is Sweet Addiction - The botanic story of chocolate. Be inspired by the largest contiguous green wall in the southern hemisphere, which contains 18,000 plants arranged into living artworks representing the Mayan God of Chocolate. Learn all about the South American rainforest and take a journey through chocolate plantations. After the 45 minute self-guided tour of Sweet Addition, you’ll have a newfound appreciation for chocolate. The exhibition runs until the 17th April 2017.
The exhibition is curated by internationally renowned Director of Horticulture Management at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, Jimmy Turner. Turner says, "Sweet Addiction is an opportunity to touch, see, smell, taste and experience chocolate like never before. The story begins in the depths of a tropical rainforest, and takes visitors on a journey through chocolate plantations, ancient history and a Lindt mill, culminating in the delightful chocolatier room".
