The $2 Kmart product that will clean anything

Just add water - by Rebecca Lowrey Boyd
  • 16 Jan 2018

A $2 Kmart cleaning product has been hailed a “life changer” in a recent discussion on Facebook.

The pack of 6 Cleaning Erasers from Kmart makes no claims on its minimalist packaging, but it’s creating a shopper-led buzz all on its own.

The sponge erasers are activated with water, and they can purportedly clean everything from dirty walls to greasy stovetops.

When Karalee Evans started a discussion about the cleaners on the Kmart Mums Australia closed Facebook group, she was "pleasantly surprised" by the volume of responses.

"Over 500 mums shared tips on how they’ve used it on everything from shower screens to shoes and car interiors,” she told Better Homes and Gardens.

“I have now tried it on my shower screen and had a great result,” she said.

Alice Springs mum Dani Wenske was also surprised to find that the sponge cleaner transformed her washing machine.

“My mum, a cleaner, had tried every chemical and solution to remove the stain from the washing machine lid,” the mother of a three-month-old baby explained to Better Homes and Gardens.

“I had read about these Kmart magic erasers and thought I might as well give it a try. I simply wet the sponge and scrunched out the excess water and with a bit of elbow grease the majority of the stain disappeared,” she said.

Mum of four Linda McDonnell also found success with the sponge cleaner.

“My husband is a truck driver and I can’t keep my dining chairs clean. I have tried everything so I thought I would give the magic eraser a go,” she told Better Homes and Gardens.

“I was shocked at how the dirt just wiped off with very little effort on my part. After using the eraser I wiped it with a damp cloth and the results were amazing. The real shock was when I put the other chair next to the clean one. As you can see, the difference is unbelievable.

“So then I used it on the walls in my teenage son's room and all the grubby hand prints, ball marks and scuff marks just disappeared.

“This would have to be the best $2 I have ever spent and with the way they are flying off the shelves, it looks like we are all busy cleaning,” she said.

Others in the Facebook group reported that they had used the sponge to clean floors, bathtub ring marks, stainless steel exhaust fans, stainless steel cooktops, white leather lounges, car windscreens, shower tiles, vertical blinds, toasters and ovens.
