The biggest problem with storing your clothes in the washing machine is moisture, something mould thrives off.
In addition, moisture build up on clothes could lead to mould growth and possibly even stubborn stains. Not to mention, research the University of Arizona's professor of environmental biology, Chuck Gerba, found after swabbing 100 washing machines, 44 per cent of them contained faecal bacteria.
To keep the mould at bay, it’s best to store your dirty clothes in a hamper or basket with plenty of circulation and light. It's also recommended to clean your washing machine once a month.
