New research conducted by The George Institute of Global Health has found that just one tablespoon of soy sauce accounts for 61 per cent of your daily salt intake.

Between 2010 and 2018, researchers examined soy sauce varieties from Australia's four major supermarkets to determine the nutritional value of our favourite topping.
Dietitian Sian Armstrong from Australia's Heart Foundation was quick to add that sodium differed from product to product, with some brands containing more than double that of others. This means there was the potential to reduce salt content in the product.
"We know that stir-fry dishes are really popular because they are quick, fresh and healthy but too many of us are unaware of just how much salt is hidden in the sauces we use," Sian said.
"Too much salt can cause high blood pressure, which increases your risk of stroke, heart and kidney disease," she warned.
