Worryingly, hundreds of new avocado trees that have been planted within the past decade are now coming into production, only adding to the fire.
To combat the issue, the industry is looking at new export markets. WA growers recently secured access to Japanese markets with their first shipment locked in to be sent this week.
As some of the highest consumers of avocados in the world already, with over half the nation (54%) saying they would eat avocado for every meal, it's now time to whip up some guacamole and help reduce the glut before it sends many in the industry to the wall.
