The right-size bite
Small dogs are big on personality but have different needs to larger breeds. They have a higher metabolic rate, meaning they need to be fed smaller volumes of higher energy food.
Generally speaking, a small-breed dog weighs under 10kg, so feed them according to their ideal body weight. (If you’re unsure, ask your vet for advice.) If your dog eats all its dinner at once, divide the amount into two or three smaller meals a day.
Little dogs need kibble (dry dog food) formulated for their nutritional and energy needs. It’s also a great way to keep your dog’s teeth clean, so make sure the pieces of kibble are small and easy for them to chew.
Finally, keep your pooch fighting fit by giving him or her at least 30 minutes exercise a day. It will improve their social skills and help them live a long, happy and healthy life.
