Winter is prime time for a natural healthy glow to go on vacation. The chill in the air paired with rain and wind, increased time in front of the heater and hotter showers are a recipe for dehydrated and dull skin.
Not quite the skin goals we’re all after, are they?
So instead of trying to reinvigorate your complexion with clever makeup products like illuminating primers and highlighters, fix the problem at the source. Here are five things you should be doing in winter for amazing skin.
Change your skin care products
Just like you change your wardrobe to suit the change of season, you should do the same with your skin care routine.
Look to add products that contain ingredients that will add a little more nourishment, because hydrated and moisturised skin is happy, healthy and glowing.
Reduce heat exposure
It’s human nature to seek warmth when we feel the icy chill of winter, but sadly the hotter you make your shower, and the more time you spend in front of the heater, the more you’re compromising the health of your skin.
Excessive exposure to heat can lead to dry, parched skin, which makes for a dull and lacklustre complexion. Try as best you can to limit your heater time and keep the temperature of your showers mild.
Add a facial oil into your routine
There’s nothing that can inject maximum moisture into a parched and dehydrated complexion quite like an oil can.
After cleansing and before your night cream, apply a couple of drops of the Burt’s Bees Skin Nourishment Facial Oil into your palms and gently massage it in. Indulge in a weekly mask session

Once or twice a week, apply an intensely hydrating sheet mask (like Estée Lauder Micro Essence Infusion Mask), let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes, and once removed, massage the excess product into your skin.
Drink more water
You’d be surprised by how much drinking enough water can improve your skin.
To really simplify it, water is essentially fuel for your body, and when you’re sufficiently hydrated, your cells work harder, meaning your skin is healthier. And because we don’t expect you to completely avoid every kind of heat source during winter, it’s all the more important to ensure you are drinking enough water during the day.
If you can’t hack a cold or room temperature glass, try replacing your coffee or tea with a glass of hot water.
