Six clever kitchen storage design ideas

Plan well thought out and organised storage, maximising every bit of available space to create a sense of order. Locate items where they are most needed, especially if your kitchen has a large footprint - you don't want to be traipsing miles when preparing a meal. Use the walls and splashback to good effect, and take advantage of in-cabinet solutions where you can hide bulky tabletop appliances behind closed doors, yet ensure they are easily accessible.

Utensils

Keep utensils close to the cooking action by hanging a rail above the stovetop.

Thinkstock

Cutlery drawers

Plan for a run of long, slim drawers to accommodate cutlery, knife block and smaller utensils. With divisions in place, neatness can't help but prevail.

Thinkstock

Fully extendable drawers for crockery

Make access to your everyday crockery a breeze with cabinets featuring fully extendable interior drawers. Now that's pulling power!

Thinkstock

Cleverly concealed kitchen essentials

Look for creative ways to conceal kitchen essentials. Integrate a pull-out chopping board, and serving trays slotted into your cabinetry. So organised, you'll have plenty of time to cook up a storm.

Thinkstock

Utilise splashbacks

In the main, splashbacks are so under-utilised. Not here! Picking up the slack are rails and floating shelves - shallow so you don't knock your head as you do the dishes, For seamless integration, colour the shelves the same as the wall.

Thinkstock

Hideaway wine racks

Conceal wine coolers behind closed doors. If it's likely to be open for business as a bar, pretty up the interior. Paint or line the cabinet with a gorgeous wallpaper.
