There are so many beautiful places in the world. There are the Canadian Rockies with its stunning mountainous landscapes, the rolling green hills of Switzerland, the beautiful beaches and outback of Australia, and the alpine wonderland that is New Zealand.
But, according to travellers who participated in a Rough Guides survey, none of these places took out the title as the most beautiful country. It was Scotland that took out the prestigious title, with the website stating, “Who can deny that these wild beaches, deep lochs and craggy castles are some of the most wonderful and beautiful sights in the world?”
There’s a lot to love about Scotland. The country offers travellers historic views and castles, stunning coastal panoramas, dark night skies perfect for viewing the Northern Lights and lively, cultural cities.
Scotland’s latest tourism campaign line is 'A spirit of its own', which according to Visit Scotland’s CEO Malcolm Roughead is based on feedback from visitors that they get a special feeling when visiting the country.
“Whether it's in the wilds of Glen Coe on a stormy day or taking part in a ceilidh on Burns' Night – there is something different about Scotland that they can't experience anywhere else in the world,” Roughead told the Daily Mail.
Not all was lost for Canada and New Zealand as they were ranked second and third place respectively. See the full list below.
3. New Zealand
5. South Africa
It may surprise some travellers to see Ireland so far down the list as it's such a close neighbour, but not everyone can be a winner!
