STEP 1 Use reciprocating saw to cut roots away from garden bed edges and walls. Use saw to divide large root balls into sections. Remove plants including all roots. Discard or make cuttings from healthy sections, if available.
STEP 2 Fill beds with equal parts garden mix and Cow & Compost mix. To prepare for planting, enrich soil by forking in compost. Rake flat, keeping away from garden bed edging.
STEP 3 To prepare brick edging for paint, clean with water. Apply 2 coats of paint, letting dry after each coat.
STEP 4 Plan your garden bed with tall layers first, then accent plants for effect and colour, followed by plants to fill spaces. Use spade to dig holes for new plants, using pot diameter as your guide. Make holes deep enough so root ball sits flush with soil level.
STEP 5 Remove plants from plastic pots, gently loosening roots at bottom. Place into holes and mound soil around base of plants. Press soil firmly.
STEP 6 Add a 10–15cm layer of mulch to finish. Water well.
