As it happens, Potcake Place is located on a Caribbean island called Providenciales, within the Turks and Caicos Islands, which is an archipelago near the Bahamas.
In addition to enjoying the idyllic tropical location, tourists are able to take the puppies on a walk down to the beach in order to get the pupsters comfortable with walking on a leash.
Potcake Place has made the island popular with both tourists and digital influencers alike, and those who take the dogs on walks are given careful instructions about how to look after the puppy while it is in their care. They supply all volunteers with a beach bag that contains a bowl, a bottle of water, some toys, a bay of puppy treat and a roll of poop bags. All puppies wear a harness on their walks, in addition to a collar. The leash must remain on at all times.
The founder of Potcake Place, Jane Parker-Rauw, told Buzzfeed, “We have found these short puppy excursions to be invaluable to the puppy's development. These short interactions with nice people both in and out of the adoption center really help to give them confidence that yes, most people really are good. We have seen hundreds of times a very shy puppy just excel and develop over a short time this way. It's lovely."
