The former childhood home of Princess Diana has thrown open its doors to the public for the British summer.

Althorp House is the Spencer family estate based in Northamptonshire, and it’s currently home to Diana’s brother Earl Charles Spencer and his wife Countess Karen Spencer.

It’s been in the Spencer family for more than 500 years, and the house itself dates back to 1688.

The family has invited the public to tour the home as part of the Animals of Althorp exhibition, which is described as an “intriguing tour of the historic house’s lesser-known residents”.

According to the site, the exhibition “presents a new and unique opportunity to discover the never-previously-told story of its many animals and the undeniable mark they left upon the family’s history.”

Visitors can explore the house with a guided map, which highlights a number of original portraits, pieces of furniture and ceramics.

The late Princess Diana is buried on the private island in the middle of the Round Oval lake. This isn’t accessible to the public, but you can visit a separate memorial site.
