In an interview with The Daily Meal, New York-based nutritionist Chelsey Amer explained that compared to many sugar-laden cereals out there – think Froot Loops and Frosties – pizza would actually be a better breakfast option.
“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” Chelsey told the The Daily Meal. “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”
However, Chelsey did clarify that pizza is not a health food, but when compared with a quickly poured bowl of sugar flakes, it’s a more balanced meal.
“Plus, a slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash,” she said.
Better yet, look for cereals made from organic nuts and whole grains, real fruit and high health star rating.
It certainly puts those sugary kids' cereals into perspective, doesn't it?
