Pink pineapples, which are grown in Costa Rica, are the latest food trend to take over social media.
The “Rosé” pineapple has been in the works since 2005 by a U.S. company, Del Monte Foods, but only recently has the FDA approved it to sell to consumers. This is because it has been genetically modified using a natural pigment called lycopene, which is actually found in watermelons and tomatoes.
Not only do these look more photogenic than a typical pineapple, but they’re also a lot sweeter.
They will be available in supermarkets across the U.S., but hopefully they’ll make it to Australia soon.
