Outdoor cooking alternatives

Who doesn’t love an outdoor cook up? While a few steaks and snags on the barbie have always been favourites, why not take your outdoor cooking to the next level. Here’s how.

Low and slow

Just as the slow cooker is the latest appliance for the kitchen, the smoker is the same for the outdoor chef. A smoker cooks food at a low temperature for a long period of time. Rather than drying out your food, it keeps all the juices in for enhanced flavour. Adding even more flavour are the woodchips used during the smoking process. Experiment with different types to find your favourite!

Pizza time!

If you love the taste of fresh pizza – and who doesn’t – then an outdoor pizza oven should be high on your list. For the best taste, try a wood fired oven. You can buy small ones that don’t need any assembly so you can start cooking straight away. For more convenience, go for a gas-fired pizza oven. They’re also quite compact so are perfect for small courtyards or even a balcony.

Don’t forget the barbie

You can still expand your outdoor cooking with your existing barbecue. A pizza box is an accessory that goes in your barbecue. It’s not only for pizzas either. You can use it to make bread, cookies and bake fish. A smoker box is another way you can get more out of your barbie. Set the barbie on low, put down the hood and let the woodchips work their magic.
