While it's only gaining popularity in the States now, the style has become increasingly in-demand in Australia over the last few years, with Italian winemakers leading the surge. It's ideal for wine lovers who want to try something different in both taste and texture.
Before you get ahead of yourself, the drink is not made with oranges nor does it taste like them. It is so named for it's vibrant, amber hue.
Orange wine is also known as skin-contact wine, and it is made from white grapes that have had extended skin contact for hundreds of days. By comparison, white wine is made from white grapes after the skin and seeds are removed after just a few hours, and red wine is made using purple grapes that have had a couple of weeks of skin contact.
