Ode to Clean is a new cleaning wipe launched this week by Solugen, a biotech company. Creators Gaurab Chakrabarti and Dr Sean Hunt revealed they have developed a more energy efficient way to make hydrogen peroxide using plant starch and water.
"Wipes are incredibly energy intensive to produce and create a lot of waste, but are also incredibly convenient to use," Dr Hunt said in a press release.
"Hydrogen peroxide is recognised worldwide as a safe and effective cleaning ingredient but is incredibly dangerous and energy-intensive to create and transport," Solugen’s CEO Chakrabarti added.
The pair created the products, described on their website as "the world's safest and most effective cleaning wipe", after discovering an enzyme that could turn plant sugars into hydrogen peroxide.
"We wanted to not only develop a technology that reduces the waste and pollution in the production process but also create a purer product that would be clean and safe to use in our homes with our own families."
The result: cleaning wipes that are 100 per cent biodegradable and compostable.
