With the help of an expert guest judge, the three wide-eyed judges giggle, gasp and gawp as the amateur bakers bumble their way to the finish line.
Comments like “what is royal icing?” and “I think the tip needs to go inside the piping bag …” are ticklingly common, along with contestants forgetting to put flour in their cake mix or trying to ice a piping hot cupcake from the oven.
The hopeful cooks then declare ‘nailed it!’ as they lift the cloche and present their final creation. And oh, are they bad!
The winner of round one wins a shiny new piece of kitchenware and gets to wear a glittery gold chef’s hat for round two. Whoever takes out round two – that is, whoever ‘nails it’ – walks home with ten thousand dollars.
Despite being a show about ‘failing’, it is an exceptionally charming and light-hearted romp, with contestants saying they learned a lot and everyone having a good laugh. It’s a welcome reprieve from the other high-pressured, haute-cuisine cooking shows we’ve watched recently.
Nailed It definitely deserves a spot on your binge-list!
