Skyscanner has just released its 2018 travel trends report and has tapped four travel destinations as the emerging ‘it’ locations for Aussie explorers in 2019.
Surprisingly, Kiev in Ukraine was named as the number one most popular up and coming destination spot for Australian travellers in 2019, citing a 129 per cent growth in searches. Kiev has become a popular tourist spot thanks to its Parisian-like boulevards, architectural Byzantine masterpieces, Ukrainian dumplings and chicken Kiev. Not to mention the historical sights and nearby Carpathian Mountains.
Thessaloniki in Greece has seen a 69 per cent growth in searches in 2018. The city is the second largest in Greece and is thought to have excellent nightlife, beautiful architecture and history to discover, and a very famous dessert shop to visit.
St Petersburg in Russia has experienced a 49 per cent growth in searches and the Russian city has a seemingly endless list of things to offer. Instantly recognisable architecture, beautiful canals, gourmet food, a contemporary arts scene and exciting nightlife are just some of the things you can discover in Russia’s cultural centre.
The report discovered that the city of Lisbon in Portugal has seen a significant growth in popularity in 2018, putting it in good stead to be the ‘it’ destination for Australian travellers in 2019. Lisbon has seen searches for flights grow by 37 per cent, which isn’t surprising, as the city is known for its beautiful architecture, delicious food and affordability, not to mention almost year-round good weather.
There’s no better time than now to book a holiday!
