This mini clothes line, complete with felt stockings and mittens, will be a fun talking point in the lead-up to the big night.
Gather your supplies
Felt in assorted colours; matching threads; mini clothes pegs; string or ribbon for hanging; thin card; small bought pompom (for hat)
Step 1 Using a photocopier, enlarge The Elves’ New Clothes Diagrams to 333%. Trace onto thin card, then cut out to make templates. Trace templates onto felt and cut out quantities as directed.
Step 2 To make 1 stocking, hand stitch contrasting felt stripes to 1 piece (to be stocking front). With wrong sides facing, pin front to a mirrored back and machine stitch around stocking, leaving the opening at top. Turn through. Repeat for second stocking.
Step 3 To make 1 mitten, hand stitch a contrasting felt star to 1 piece (to be mitten front). With wrong sides facing, pin front to a mirrored back and machine stitch around mitten, leaving opening at wrist. Turn through. Repeat for second mitten.
Step 4 To make hat, hand stitch contrasting felt stripes to hat. With wrong sides facing, pin and machine stitch side seam. Turn through. Stitch small pompom to top of hat.
Step 5 To make pants, with wrong sides facing, pin and machine stitch left front to right front from waist to crotch. Repeat for back seam. Pin and stitch inner leg seam, beginning at 1 ankle and stitching up leg and around to other ankle. Turn through. Hand stitch 2 belt loops to waistband. Cut a strip of contrasting felt to make a belt. Thread through and knot.
Step 6 To make jacket, with wrong sides facing, pin and machine stitch each Jacket Front to Jacket Back along shoulder seam. Do not turn through. Pin and machine stitch top of 1 Sleeve to armhole, centering to shoulder seam. Repeat for other side. On 1 side, pin sleeve and side seams. Stitch together, beginning at cuff and stitching up arm and down side seam. Repeat for other side. Turn through. Hand stitch Jacket Collar and Jacket Cuffs in place. Hand stitch 3 small circles of felt to front for buttons.
Step 7 Attach finished clothes to string or ribbon with pegs.
