Sometimes being sent out to your barbecue area is a lonely chore. But with a little decorating flair you can turn it into the hottest spot in your yard – everyone will want to come along to watch the burger-flipping show. Here, the small area between the garage and fence was ideal for a transformation into an outdoor room. It has been divided into three sections: cooking, lounging and dining. This meant removing the grass, updating the garden bed, putting down paving, painting the fence and erecting screening. Topped off with furniture you can make, the whole space is adaptable from casual drinks to cooking up a storm for a weekend party.
Seats for all
An inviting area lets you gather in comfort before and after the meal is on the table. With three seating zones, you’re spoiled for choice!
Get fired up
Use the area in winter by adding a chimenea, so your guests can stay toasty while waiting to experience your sizzling culinary delights.
Sleek shade lines
A simple screen of inverted L-shapes painted white not only breaks up the view of the stark-looking fence but hints at being a pergola.
No more leaks
Keep the water out of hardwood storage seats by sealing the joints in the lid with marine-grade black sealant – it also adds a nautical feel.
Tools at the ready
Choose your weapons! Keep the cooking implements in order with a simple tool rack made of aluminium sections.
