1. The water of life
To determine if your plant needs watering, feel the top 2.5cm of the potting mix with your finger each week. If it’s damp, don’t water until next time. Certain plants, such as cyclamen, prefer to be watered from underneath.
2. Food for thought
The best food for house plants is a controlled-release fertiliser, which will keep them well fed for three or four months. You can spray them with a half-strength seaweed solution for a quick boost of nutrients.
3. Let it shine
Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove any dust. As well as making the foliage look nice and glossy, it will help the plant (and you!) breathe better.
