Instead of building yet another giant hotel chain, Little National skipped the theatrics and took out the unnecessary parts of a hotel stay and created an affordable, convenient oasis.
With a flagship hotel in Canberra, that opened in 2015 to wide acclaim, Little National’s second site is nestled above Sydney's Wynyard station and amongst skyscrapers, in the prime inner-city spot of Barangaroo.
The hotel has a New York, business-chic feel to it with luxurious rooms spread across 12-storey's that provide the perfect escape from the world below.
Little National cleverly uses space to make it feel larger, with everything from its reflective marble ceilings to the minimalist and welcoming design, making it more lush than cramped.
You’ll find everything you could ever need including a library and gym for the go-getters and a rooftop bar for those looking to unwind.
Since it doesn't have its own kitchen, Little National has partnered up with several food delivery services including Uber Eats to offer a room service experience. Simply enter the hotels address into the app and once your meal's arrived, staff will deliver it to your door with sustainable bamboo cutlery and a plate.
While it is a business-model that encourages you to get outside of the room, browse its in-house newspaper for all the goings on nearby, there are still plenty of creature comforts within its walls; the super king-sized bed for one.
Designed to be the main feature of the room, the bed has everything at arm’s length (charging points, lighting and a tablet with concierge access and bluetooth). The plush bed-base has a built in wide-screen television with complimentary movies and a T2 service with a pot, cups, tea and a tray so you can enjoy a cuppa in bed. Don the faux-mink robe if you really want to get comfortable.
The bed is set against a floor to ceiling window, though the view isn't much to look at, just more skyscrapers to peep into. However the co-mingling spaces are dressed-up with greenery to make it less of a concrete jungle.
If you can pull yourself out of the cosy bed, head upstairs to the rooftop to find the adjoining library and indoor-outdoor bar where you can either sit in the sun or in front of a fire place.
Though it fits best with the solo business-travel, Little National makes for the perfect pit-stop for holidayers too.
