You’ll also need
Pencil; 28cm-dia. dinner plate; craft knife and cutting mat; 19cm-dia. side plate; Brother ScanNCut CM900 machine and Mid Tack Mat (optional); sewing machine; general sewing supplies; sticky tape
STEP 1 Trace around dinner plate onto foam core. Cut out with craft knife and mat. Centre side plate on circle and trace around it. Cut out, working from centre to make a ‘donut’ shape.
STEP 2 Enlarge Feather templates on a photocopier (Get the template here). Referring to ScanNCut instructions (lbottom), cut 29 large feathers, and 12 small feathers from assorted card colours. Alternatively, use templates to hand-cut feathers.
STEP 3 Score down centre of each large feather, curving to follow its shape. Beginning at top of each feather, stitch along scored line, leaving 30cm of thread at end of each feather for hanging. Use sticky tape to hang large feathers to donut.
STEP 4 Make 4 evenly spaced holes in donut. Cut 4 lengths of string and make a knot at 1 end of each. Thread a string through each hole with knot on donut underside, pulling knot taut against ring.
STEP 5 To neaten finish of mobile top, from kraft card, cut four 3.5cm-wide strips. Overlapping ends, glue together to make a ring that fits around donut. Cover with decorative paper. Glue in place.
STEP 6 Glue small feathers around paper ring.
STEP 7 Knot string ends, centring knot for hanging.
You can hand-cut the templates for these projects or you can make it easy on yourself by using this fabulous ScanNCut machine.
